FAQs on clinical associates
The project is still in its early stages. Several divisions at the Collège des médecins du Québec are actively working on it. Many steps are yet to be completed before the project can be officially launched, including:
- defining the admission criteria for clinical associates;
- identifying and assessing the legal mechanisms and tools available to support their practice;
- establishing standards for supervising and maintaining their skills;
- defining the inspection procedures and complaint handling process that must be implemented in regard to the clinical associates;
- providing the CMQ with the necessary resources to integrate clinical associates into the professional order;
- arranging for the integration procedures to be included in the health care system.
It is thus a long and complex process which involves several stakeholders. We are optimistic that clinical associates will be able to integrate the Quebec health and social services network. But it is still too early to set a definite date for this.
We are still in the project phase: the requirements, procedures, and required documents to apply as a clinical associate have not yet been determined. Various analyses and representations must first be completed.
In due time, the CMQ will relay information regarding the project’s progression on its website and social media. Subscribe to our InfoCMQ general public newsletter and follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Bluesky to stay updated.
There are currently two (2) pathways available for physicians who have obtained an international medical degree. To learn more about these two options, please visit the Collège des médecins du Québec International medical graduate (IMG) webpage.
As the pilot is not implemented yet, it is a bit early to express your interest in this project. Any information related to this project will be shared with you in due time through our newsletter and social media. Thank you for your interest and patience.
In due time, each application will be reviewed individually. If you meet the requirements for admission to the medical profession in Quebec, you will be eligible to apply for a regular or a restrictive permit.
