Elective training period


If you are a medical graduate enrolled in a program accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Royal College) or the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), are completing a postgraduate training program in a faculty of medicine in Canada or the United States AND would like to complete an elective postgraduate training period in a faculty of medicine in Quebec, you must have a training card issued by the Collège des médecins du Québec (Collège).

The admission requirements for these training periods can vary across faculties of medicine. Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements of the faculty of medicine concerned.

To obtain a training card, the applicant must:

  1. Be accepted by a faculty of medicine at a Quebec university. The faculty will send the Collège a letter confirming that the resident has been accepted.
  2. Provide the faculty of medicine in Quebec with the required documents.
  3. Complete an application for a training card through the Collège’s Online services and pay the required fees (access to the site will be given by the Collège.)

The Collège will issue the training card once the applicant has completed the application and the university has provided the information required.
